Leadership.  Doing and being.
Effective leadership is about doing and being. It’s about what you do and who you are.  As a leader you probably spend most of your time and energy doing.  It’s what you’re paid for and what gives you immediate satisfaction.  Focusing on the ‘being’ bit can seem elusive, indulgent even.

What you do and how you do it is important.  When you know you’re doing a good job, operating effectively and appropriately in your role you can relax. You can see and hear the feedback that tells you you’re on track.  When you know that what you’re doing is a reflection of who you really are, you lose some of the tension that goes with having to put on an act.  You come across as authentic. People trust you.  You feel comfortable in your own skin.

The most effective leaders work at the ‘doing’ and ‘being’ of leadership.  It’s work that can be challenging and rewarding.  You need focus and persistence.  You also need curiosity - about yourself and the environment in which you operate.  Defining who you are as a leader is one of the greatest questions you will ever address.
